rating: 3 of 5 stars This is a tragedy of manners, well written, a bit plodding, but worth the time spent. I don't love Lily Bart nor any of her 'friends' but I'm pretty sure that's the point. Edith Wharton's social commentary is keen, almost cruel. She shows her skill in explicating that in 'Age of Innocence' and even more so in this work.
